Dutch collective SMACK use computer animation to build innovative generative artworks. Their major video installation, Speculum, 2019, presents a contemporary reinterpretation of Hieronymus Bosch’s iconic painting, The garden of earthly delights. Utilising light-hearted aesthetics and popular imagery to reveal uncomfortable realities about our contemporary culture, the digital triptych presents a crude mirror of our time, populated by lonely individuals obsessed with images, invasive technologies, and icons of popular culture.
