In celebration of the 2023 exhibition Melbourne Now, NGV has collaborated with featured artist Fiona Abicare to produce limited-edition sculptures referencing her work Moving against, moving away, moving toward (2023).

Fiona Abicare is known for her expanded practice that includes sculpture, photography, design and interiors. Her work has a historical relationship to the concept of ‘total artwork’ (Gesamtkunstwerk) found in modernist design and is developed through extensive material research and conceptual framing.

Each edition contains a signed and numbered certificate of authenticity and is encased in a custom calico bag.

About the artwork

The limited-edition sculptures Wild Blueberry Tart – appeal to mastery, White Forests – appeal to freedom and Chocolate Croissant – appeal to love have been developed with renowned chef Tom Levick and refer directly to Abicare’s major sculptural commission for Melbourne Now. The work draws on German psychoanalyst Karen Horney’s behavioural theories and engages classical culinary processes to table a delicious social proposition.
