Arts Project Australia has aimed high since 1974 when they set out to lead and innovate in the arts and disability sectors. Arts Project were the first full-time art studio in Australia dedicated to artists with an intellectual disability and have built a reputation both in Australia and internationally for their achievements on this front. They have been included in exhibitions all over the world and are represented in countless public and private collections.
Third Drawer Down Studio in collaboration with Arts Projects Australia and the NGV design store present Australiana, a collection of functional art products featuring the work of Lisa Reid, Cathy Staughton, Julian Martin, Patrick Francis, Valerio Ciccone and Peter Ben.
The 20-piece collection pays homage to the kitsch Australian souvenir, singing our anthem via pot holders, stubby coolers and tea towels. All products are exclusive to the NGV design store.
Cathy Staughton is a painter whose imaginings are brought to life using a vivid technicolour palette and an honest approach to her subject. Her paintings depict autobiographical themes and she frequently portrays herself through various characters or guises. Often Staughton repeats symbolic characters such as robots and saintly figures, along with a life-long fascination with Luna Park. Overtones of humour, pathos and nostalgia pervades her work and draws the viewer into her vividly imagined alternative reality.
This tea towel features Cathy Staughton's work Luna Park. 100% linen.
