Issue # 10 is all about the great city that is New York and is inspired by the forthcoming Melbourne Winter Masterpieces exhibition developed by the NGV, in partnership with New York’s The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), MoMA at NGV: 130 Years of Modern and Contemporary Art.
NGV Senior Curator of International Exhibition Projects, Dr Miranda Wallace, introduces key artworks in her essay on the exhibition, and in Creative Sparks two of MoMA’s curators, Samantha Friedman, Associate Curator of Drawings and Prints, and Juliet Kinchin, Curator of Modern Design, write about collaborating on the exhibition and their professional journeys in the museum industry.
As part of the New York theme, NGV Magazine presents the new participatory installation for children New York! New York! with an essay by exhibition curator Kate Ryan on Manhattan and its Neighbourhoods, as well as features on works in the NGV Collection made in or depicting New York City.
This issue also spotlights the NGV’s John Schaeffer Gallery (Salon Gallery), the studio practice of contemporary artist Rirkrit Tiravanija, new NGV exhibition A Modern Life: Tablewares 1930s–1980s, and artist James Tylor writes about his hand-painted photographs in Colony: Frontier Wars.
Art. Ideas. Design. Creativity. With new writing, interviews, photography and features, NGV Magazine is about the people and stories behind great art and design. NGV Magazine celebrates creativity of all kinds through writing commissioned from around the world and a focus on unique content.
